We spoke with the current concessionaire who has renovated, together with the municipality, this classic port beach.
The beach resort "Las Torpederas", located on the coast of the port, in the Playa Ancha area, is an ideal place to visit on long weekends. The beautiful Altamirano promenade and the lovely views of the cliffs and the ocean from the viewpoints make it a perfect place to visit with the family. Visiting the Punta Angeles Lighthouse and enjoying the coastal bike path are some of the attractions. Erick Fuentes (34), knows its charms very well, they were the same ones that captivated him and convinced him to take over the concession of the beach and renew it. Today he is the concessionaire of the beach and manager of the restaurant Las Torpederas, which is ready to welcome locals and visitors.
About what Playa Ancha has to offer and tips on how to get there you can check out our interview.
- What are the characteristics of the resort to be visited by locals and tourists?
"It is a beach that has few waves and is surrounded by nature, a very beautiful coastline that connects with El Membrillo cove, and also with the La Pólvora road that leads to Route 68 and makes access much easier for visitors and tourists who come to the place”.
-What is the central axis of the gastronomic menu of the restaurant "Las Torpederas"?
"The restaurant has a menu marked by the sale of fish and seafood, our products are obtained mainly by local suppliers from the El Membrillo cove, which generates a circular economy, where we spend resources in the city, we look for suppliers from Valparaiso and thus contributes to economic development as a whole."
On the other hand, Erick is the president of the trade association "Playa Ancha tu destino" (Playa Ancha your destination), which aims to promote this hill for the many tourist attractions it has.
-What are the most outstanding attractions in Playa Ancha?
"Playa Ancha is the largest hill in Valparaíso, it is one of the most beautiful hills, without detracting from the others, but it has many attractions that others do not have. It has a beach, coastline, promenades, cove, direct connection to Route 68, neighborhood life, restaurants, cafes and commerce of all kinds, so it has a very important offer. Especially for its heritage character, in which Playa Ancha tu Destino and its associates have contributed to the restoration of heritage houses over 100 years old. The "Las Torpederas" beach resort, located on the port coast, in the Playa Ancha sector, is an ideal place to visit on a long weekend. The beautiful Altamirano promenade and the lovely views of the cliffs and the ocean from the viewpoints make it a perfect place to visit with the family.
